Friday, May 11th

Well, we're here!!! Everybody has arrived safely, even Wes who decided that he couldn't travel with us and came on his own plane.

I was a little concerned this morning at 3:15am as I attempted to close my suitcase and the zipper broke! We were supposed to pick up the Fellowes at 3:30am, so needless to say I moved quickly. My husband loaned me his suitcase and we quickly moved everything over. Whew!

We all got on the plane. Jamaul did great! It was his first time on a plane.

We made our plane in Houston, though we had to move quickly and received all of our luggage without a hitch. Do you remember Norm saying that each trip keeps getting better? Well, here's Tommy Ann upgrading our transportation.

(Just kidding!)

After getting our rental vehicles, we had lunch at Burger King and then drove down the coast a bit. There's still so much that hasn't been rebuilt along the coast.

We arrived at camp

and tried to determine whether we wanted cots or mattresses on the floor. Some of us, namely Ray, found a full-size mattress, so he's going to be sleeping very comfortably tonight. All the tents have their air conditioning running, so that's very nice. It wasn't really that warm today, 80's, I think. It's cooled off nicely this evening.

Here we are getting our name badges.

A group from Pennsylvania supplied dinner for us: macaroni and cheese with ham, some cinnamon apples, salad, lemon bars.

We just had our briefing from Irene and everybody has disbursed, except for Wes who is on his thirds with dinner.

By the way, there are new washers and dryers here in the men's shower area.
